The LMA Grand Agriculture Delegation paid an official visit to the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute upon invitation.(Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute, hereinafter referred to as “MARDI”.
MARDI is Malaysia’s core government agency responsible for agricultural R&D and technology extension, joining hands to unveil a new blueprint for the deployment of tropical super hybrid rice.

During the visit, the LMA team received high regard and warm hospitality from MARDI. The delegation held a formal technical exchange meeting with MARDI’s Director General, Datuk Dr. Mohamad Zabawi, and senior executives. In-depth business discussions were conducted on the implementation of hybrid rice in Malaysia, and both sides reached positive consensus on macro-strategic directions such as the introduction and localized development of hybrid rice.
LMA team held cordial and in-depth discussions with Malaysia’s Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mohamad Sabu, and Deputy Minister Chan Foong Hin during their visit to Kuala Lumpur.

I. Friendly Exchanges to Jointly Advance Global Food Security Cooperation

Starting mid-April 2026, through the proactive coordination of the Office of the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security of Malaysia, LMA successfully established a smooth technical communication channel with the Malaysian side. During the formal technical exchange meeting held on June 29, the delegation presented to the Malaysian counterparts a systematic overview of LMA’s breakthrough achievements in tropical super hybrid rice R&D. Leaders from Malaysia’s Ministry of Agriculture and MARDI spoke highly of LMA’s advanced technologies and its global outreach experience. The Malaysian side noted that the country is committed to significantly raising its domestic rice self-sufficiency level (SSL) by introducing cutting-edge agricultural technologies, and emphasized that LMA’s tropical hybrid rice technology aligns closely with Malaysia’s long-term national food security strategy. Both parties expressed strong consensus on the overarching direction for promoting high-yield, high-quality hybrid rice in Malaysia moving forward.

II. Technological Breakthrough: Technical Exchange on Tropical Super Hybrid Rice

During the technical seminar, LMA addressed MARDI’s concerns regarding agronomic performance, disease and stress resistance, grain quality, and localized production one by one:

  1. Outstanding Stress Tolerance and Yield Potential: LMA’s tropical super hybrid rice technology demonstrates exceptional stress tolerance and disease resistance, effectively adapting to complex tropical climates characterized by high temperatures and heavy rainfall. It holds immense socio-economic value by significantly boosting per-unit yield and safeguarding national food security.
  2. Superior Grain Quality and Taste: The introduced varieties feature premium traits such as long, slender grains, optimal amylose content, excellent palatability, and natural fragrance—perfectly aligning with the Malaysian local market’s demand for high-quality rice.
  3. Localized Breeding and Base Development: LMA shared its long-term vision for localized F1 seed production and the establishment of seed breeding bases. Both parties conducted preliminary discussions on building a stable localized seed supply chain and a joint R&D platform in the future.

III. Intent Alignment: Define Future R&D and Cultivation Priorities

Through this in-depth discussion, both parties reached a consensus on the future development and cultivation of hybrid rice by LMA in Malaysia.
At the conclusion of the meeting, specific directions for collaboration were agreed upon, with clearly defined phased implementation steps: from variety introduction and adaptive trials to demonstration promotion and base establishment.

Both sides agree that the implementation of hybrid rice technology is a systematic endeavor. Through scientifically sound and phased planning, they will advance each stage of the aforementioned work step by step, while exploring partnerships with Malaysia’s leading rice enterprises and local farmers. Together, they aim to build a national food security platform integrating seed production, technical services, and rice processing.
Currently, both teams are maintaining close communication to translate the principled consensus reached during the meeting into concrete cooperation terms. They are actively drafting a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to lay a solid foundation for the official launch of the next phase of collaboration.

This trip to Malaysia marks a pivotal step in LMA’s global expansion strategy. Through in-depth engagement with Malaysia’s Ministry of Agriculture and MARDI, LMA will leverage its technological strengths to collaborate closely with local partners in shaping the future of Malaysia’s seed industry, safeguarding global food security with cutting-edge agricultural innovation!
